Position Purpose:   Oversee all aspects of sports content production & coverage on multiple platforms.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Oversee and produce all live pre-season and regular season Pittsburgh Steelers games and ancillary Steelers support programming with an emphasis on technical bookings, crew hiring and content focus.

  • Work as a liaison between professional sports outlets and station for special sports projects outside the scope of live broadcasts.

  • Produce traditional sportscasts as assigned, tailoring the shows to fit the station’s image and format.

  • Produce “The Nightly Sportscall” nightly call-in talk show, integrating phone calls and social media.

  • Report and write hard sports news and feature packages as assigned.

  • Use your contacts to secure important interviews, including exclusives with players, coaches and others when possible.

  • Assist in coverage of team locker rooms, training camps, pre-and-post game news conferences.

  • Write web versions of sports stories as needed; generate “web extras” where appropriate.

  • Use social media to connect with viewers and drive them to our newscasts and the web.

Work with the other sports producer and sports talent to manage workflow, like assignments

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:


  • At least five (5) years sports producing experience.

  • Creative storyteller and strong writer.

  • In-depth knowledge of all sports: pro, college and high school, but especially professional football, hockey and baseball.

  • Ability to understand how sports can become news and be able to deliver stories that appeal to all audiences not just sports fans.

  • Ability to shoot, write and edit and work all shifts.

  • College degree required.
