CBS13/CW31, the CBS-owned television duopoly in Sacramento is seeking a Creative Services Director to develop and oversee the station’s image marketing, direct all advertising, research, promotional and contest initiatives of the station, daily promotion of the CBS13 news, CW31 and Good Day products as well as oversight of our commercial production efforts. 


The successful candidate will work with station leadership and the news department to make sure Stations are delivering on our brand promises, develop strategic plans, inspire the team and drive results. The CSD will be proactive in all facets of the role, specifically in the production of station image and daily news topical promotion, image spots, graphic design, outside media, digital and social brand integration, sales production and station community initiatives. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive the strategic and creative development of audience across a wide range of media platforms

  • Close direction and supervision of all marketing messages and scripts, spots, campaigns, and other creative 

  • Oversee daily topical advertising 

  • Develops marketing plans for projects driven by television marketing and promotion 

  • Responsible for ratings performance of newscasts, in partnership with the news director, through creative execution of supporting promotional advertising both related to image and topical spots

  • Responsible for the look and feel of all television/studio sets, signage, and vehicles 

  • Manage operating budget for the Creative Services, Graphic and Sales Production Departments.

  • Planning and execution of the sweeps plan and outside media budget. 

  • Partner with Sales Managers, Account Executives and Clients to produce outstanding creative to help achieve revenue goals.

  • Manage on air inventory and ad scheduling 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or equivalent preferred 

  • 5+ years broadcast television market experience

  • 3+ years in creative services leadership role managing staff  

  • Familiarity with using research and metrics to drive innovation and results on all platforms

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven track record in team building and collaboration skills 

  • Inclusive leader who builds a strong two-way relationship with his/her staff 

  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Attention to detail and strong organization skills

  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Power Point and Excel

  • Strong fluency in non-liner editing with Adobe, Avid systems and After Effects
