Description:

KPIX5 SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA has an opening for an Assignment Manager who can take charge and manage a competitive and aggressive group of assignment editors in the 8th largest DMA. The Assignment Manager oversees the gathering of content across all platforms by generating story ideas, communicating with field crews, and managing logistics to facilitate the news gathering process.  

Requires extensive knowledge in monitoring law enforcement and fire frequencies on newsroom scanners for spot news as well as developing sources to generate original reporting. The applicant must have experience supervising others including evaluating performance, delegating duties, and maintaining schedules.  The Assignment Manager participates in story meetings to inform participants of events being covered and ensure continuity of coverage.  The job also involves rotating weekend supervisor role and other duties which may be assigned from time to time.


Qualifications:

Applicants should have a minimum of 5-7 years assignment desk experience and 2-4 years of news management experience. Applicants must also have knowledge of television broadcasting and familiarity with the San Francisco Bay area. Two-Four years of college experience is required, preferably with a degree in Journalism


Physical Demands:

Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and operate a keyboard.
