As a maintenance and transmission specialist, this position will work within the CBS technical operations group as part of our broadcast transmission team. The position will maintain, design, document and configure content distribution equipment and systems for major network programming.
Equipment and systems maintained by this position include automation and control systems, streaming content encoders, optical converters, modulators, satellite transmitters, receiver/decoders, HD/SDI routing switchers, multiviewers, cable TV systems, satellite dish systems, record and playback server systems, up converters, klystrons, solid state transmitters, DWDM fiber equipment, embedders, obscenity delay systems, caption insertion equipment, Neilson rating equipment, audio processing equipment, sync clock systems, frame synchronizers, format converters, spectrum analyzer test equipment, stream capture test equipment, cable television equipment, and digital audio-video test equipment.
The position requires knowledge of operational IT technology including server system set up, networking and switch/router configurations, IP address planning, database and file system storage, automation software definition and interfaces.
The position will work with transmission operators, outside plant technicians, vendor staff, studio technicians, IT staff, management, and operational co-workers on a daily basis. The position performs technical and workflow quality improvements, IT and networking configurations, auto cad documentation, and equipment repairs.
High level computer skills including an understanding of computer networking and client-server applications as used in broadcasting and television production studios are required .
Reading and updating schematics and transmission diagrams, performing preventative maintenance, working with a sense of urgency and with a strong attention to detail, are all required. High level written and oral communication skills and follow through are also required.
Areas of focus include; broadcasting workflows, automation controllers, IP address masking and switch configurations, transmission encoding set up, routing switcher operation, IRD configuration and ability to understand encoding/decoding, audio PIDS, MPEG, JPEG, H264, audio mapping, HD/SDI, ASI, Dolby channel encoding, and audio phase relationships.
A BS degree or AAS degree in broadcasting, engineering, or computer science technology, or other technical science is desirable, but not required for consideration. This position requires a inimum of 5 years working in IP streaming, cable or broadcasting, or a related technical field.
