This Editorial Assistant position will assist two editors, working on a range of fiction titles as well as non fiction titles primarily in the areas of politics, history and current events. The candidate will be responsible for essential administrative and editorial tasks which will provide an opportunity to learn editorial and publishing skills. This candidate must have excellent communication and writing skills. Responsibilities include: acting as liaison to production and other support departments, logging and tracking agent submissions, scheduling meetings, answering the phone, routing invoices and contracts, preparing materials for marketing, positioning, and sales meetings; creating and tracking catalog copy, jacket copy, and covers; tracking a book along its production schedule; providing reader’s and editorial notes on manuscripts and copy generated in-house; requests for author photos, etc; and acting as a proactive point person for authors and agents on everyday requests.
Ideal candidate should have: a Bachelor’s Degree, demonstrated writing ability, knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word and Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Professional, strong organizational skills, ability to communicate clearly, analytical thinking ability, attention to detail and logistics, and an interest in and enthusiasm for politics and current events, as well as commercial and bestselling fiction and nonfiction in general, especially pop culture, hard and soft science, humor, smart thinking, and personal memoir.
