This editorial assistant is responsible for tracking books through the various stages of production; writing tip sheet, back ad, cover, and flap copy; communicating with authors and agents at all stages of project development from manuscript to finished books; reading submissions and providing reader's reports as well as notes for acquired manuscripts; providing editorial support for marketing initiatives of McElderry publishing programs; writing copy and processing all changes for conversion of hardcover titles to paperback; handling general departmental responsibilities such as coordinating meetings, taking minutes, routing paperwork, processing payments, sending out reviews, author's copies etc.
Candidate must have a B.A. degree; writing ability; organizational skills; ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing; analytical thinking skills; ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks; ability to work efficiently with time constraints; enthusiasm for children’s books. Knowledge of children’s books and children’s publishing is a plus, as is attendance at a children’s publishing course, experience at another publishing house, or with an agency.
