I. POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Residuals is responsible for the management of residuals forecasting, reporting, and preparation of all third party payments to guilds (Canadian guilds, DGA, SAG, WGA, AFM, IATSE etc.) in accordance with prescribed guidelines in association with the production of all of Showtime’s Original Programming, Events and Acquired titles.
II. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Management and preparation of all financial forecasting as it relates to residual costs including monthly, quarterly, annual and LRP forecasting of both cash and P&L. This includes the preparation of ultimate forecasts and net investment analyses, general ledger accruals and reconciliations, and financial modeling for proposed changes to guild agreement calculations for guild agreement renegotiations.
· Management and preparation of all third party guild payments of all Showtime Networks Inc. Original Programming, Acquisitions and Events. Preparation would include gathering all talent contract information needed to setup, approve and process residuals at an outsourced residual payment processor (Entertainment Partners or Media Services). Prepare and process residual reimbursement for third-party distributors.
· Provide analyses and residual estimates to Programming Distribution, Finance, Acquisitions, Business Affairs, Labor Relations and sales to determine the feasibility of potential sales and Guild negotiations. Make recommendations to Finance regarding residual exposure and potential deals with worldwide distributors. Provide ongoing financial recommendations to Planning and Scheduling in preparation of scheduling titles on all Showtime’s plexes. This individual is the primary contact for all Guild related inquiries and audits.
· Liaison with the third-party service providers, Media Services and Entertainment Partners. Responsible for reporting all receipts and network airings per Guild agreement rules. The Director will provide all distributors with Showtime’s play date information. The Director needs to have an in-depth understanding of the Guild agreements so as to manage and respond to all Guild claims, delinquencies and reimbursements and resolve claims within a reasonable amount of time. The Director will work closely with Business Affairs to complete residual delivery for all Showtime product.
II. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Expert knowledge of guild agreements and interpretation thereof with specific knowledge of Pay TV and New Media rules, in-depth experience with the successful management of guild audits, ability to analyze and interpret production and distribution contracts for residual liability and provide reporting and guidance to finance for the related financial impact of all aspects of residual activities. Proven financial and analytical experience; strong contract interpretation skills and autonomous interpretive decision-making ability relative to financial calculations; solid written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills; strong working knowledge of Excel, Access, Word, and report writer, mainframe and database standard functionality and design; excellent organizational, planning and time management ability; proven ability to handle multiple high profile projects simultaneously and follow-through on projects independently; proven ability to train, supervise and develop staff, ability to contribute as a self-directed team player in accordance with the team structure of Finance with minimal direct supervision.
V. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Residual reporting experience and a working knowledge of financial reporting, accounting and finance is a must. Managerial experience is required. A minimum of five years experience is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Entertainment industry experience is required.
