Smithsonian Networks is seeking a creative, highly motivated Digital Video Producer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate has experience managing high-volume video productions at a cable or broadcast television network and is comfortable delivering video on a daily basis. The Digital Video Producer will be responsible for post-producing short-form video content derived from on-air documentaries, as well as producing original short-form videos that support brand awareness and engagement. 

The Digital Video Producer will maintain and manage up to a half-dozen projects at a time. The Producer will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Network’s social media, editorial, programming, and marketing teams to build engaging digital videos and to shape the Network’s digital brand and voice. The ideal candidate has expertise in customizing video content for social audiences on platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc. An understanding of digital analytics and a proven ability to incorporate metrics, A/B testing, and optimization into workflow and production planning is a significant plus.

  • Manage freelance video editors; recruiting, coaching, and overseeing editors to make compelling and shareable content at scale for varied audiences and digital platforms. Some hands-on editing required.
  • Oversee post-production schedule (edit, audio, graphics), assigning priority and assuring timely project completion. 
  • Manage all stages of digital video production from development, to pre-production, production and post production, working with project team to ensure videos are executed, approved, and within budget.
  • Liaise between the Digital Editorial team and internal and external production teams to communicate deadlines and milestones, and to facilitate video deliverables.
  • Research, gather, and clear elements for video including stock footage, music, logos, etc.
  • Assure proper clearances are delivered to and reviewed by the legal team, and that content published to digital platforms is cleared legally and is in line with the Network’s brand. 
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with the editorial, social, programming, and marketing teams in conceptualizing digital video ideas that promote brand discoverability and engagement.
  • Craft relevant documentation (proposals, deliverables, production schedules, budgets, etc.)
  • Evaluate video analytics to improve performance and deliver on traffic, branding, and engagement goals.
  • Stay current with latest technology and video distribution tools to maintain high level of content experience that keeps pace with audience expectations.

  • 4 + years experience in video production 
  • Excellent proficiency in Adobe Premiere, and extensive experience with video encoding and digital file delivery
  • Familiarity with Adobe After Effects 
  • Proven track record of managing freelance editors
  • Excellent writing and text editing skills
  • Strong knowledge of field production tools for shooting video and audio 
  • Strong knowledge of video graphics with experience adding compelling graphics to videos
  • Great communications skills, a can-do attitude, and collaborative working style are vital
  • Candidate must be articulate, creative, detail-oriented, and have strong organizational and administrative management skills
  • Ability to anticipate project issues/risks and clearly communicate resolutions to the internal team and external producers
  • Ability to work with various team members to identify and analyze trends and optimizations that will maximize reach, views, and engagement
  • Must be proficient on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat etc., and have comprehensive understanding of the broader digital media landscape
  • Experience with live streaming is a plus
  • Must have the desire to work in a creative, demanding, competitive environment, while having superior attention to detail and staying focused
  • Experience in television within networks, development, production, or broader entertainment is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, online tracking/reporting tools (Google Analytics), online content management, and publishing systems
  • Very adept at building relationships (internal/network and external/producers) and evangelizing for interactive platform products and ideas that are the right fit for the brand and the digital business
