Description:

CBS This Morning is seeking a control room leader with a strong background in journalism and exceptional television production skills.  This Senior Producer will lead the live execution of CBS This Morning, special reports and other network-wide television events.  You will help manage a team of producers, writers, editors and graphics artists to craft the most active and visually compelling broadcast in network news.  You will be the primary voice in the anchors’ ears guiding them through scripted segments, live interviews and breaking news.  The Senior Producer also approves all anchor copy, makes the final decision on what to tease and how to tease it, and works closely with the Executive Producer and Managing Editor to finalize a rundown. In the frequent event of breaking news, this person is in charge of the evolving rundown, overseeing the big-picture editorial flow of the show as well as focusing the reporting, bookings, graphics, and copy that drives the urgent storytelling.

 

Candidates must be decisive multi-taskers who are recognized for their journalistic judgment and ability to remain calm in high-pressure control room environments.  The position requires a broad and current knowledge of national and world events. You are an excellent writer who is fluent in AP style.  You are adept at building a rundown and know how to keep it on time.  You have an excellent command of legal and standards processes. The ideal candidate is a leader that inspires teams, both on-the-air and behind-the-scenes, to perform at their highest levels while meeting strict deadlines.  You will help recruit and develop top producing and writing talent.  The ability to communicate with other managers and producers across the news division along with network news executives is essential.

 

This position requires an understanding of newsgathering and broadcasting technology.  An ideal candidate will constantly be seeking ways to innovate.  You will strive to find new and compelling ways every day to showcase correspondents and the stories they cover around the world.


Qualifications:

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • 8+ years control room and line-producing experience
  • 5+ years newsroom management experience
  • Must have impeccable news judgment and excellent multi-tasking abilities
  • Must be an excellent writer and copy editor
  • Thrives in high-pressure and time-critical situations
  • Must be a leader and team player with a positive attitude
  • Passion for news, journalism, and storytelling
  • Must be willing and able to work overnight hours
