The CBS News National Desk is seeking a weekend overnight assignment editor. The person will be responsible for overseeing all domestic newsgathering for the network on the weekend overnight hours.
Candidates must have strong news judgment and be able to identify stories with the potential for national interest. The editor will be responsible for confirming details of breaking news stories and deploying a team when necessary. Candidates should also have strong writing skills, as they will compile the “What's Happening” planning note for each weekend day. Candidates should be comfortable using ENPS, Dataminr and Tweetdeck, as well as cold-calling story subjects. During the week, this editor will work an early morning shift assisting the main editor with whatever is needed leading up to the CBS This Morning broadcast.
This position requires motivation, organization and a broad knowledge of domestic news. Successful candidates will always have pitches ready and know the ins and outs for each of the day's stories.
