CBS News is seeking a dynamic and hardworking Manager for its Social Media Department, who will join our intrepid, fast-paced digital media social team and oversee a handful of social media producers in the production of articles, videos and share language to grow the CBS News brand on various platforms.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in the best practices of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube, as demonstrated by his or her active social media profiles and portfolio of work. S/he must understand the most current content strategies utilized by these platforms and be equipped to create videos, articles, headlines and share language that best play to each of those platform strategies. S/he must have experience covering breaking news and the proven ability to write smart, catchy and accurate pieces on news in a variety of topics. S/he must be able and willing to work newsroom hours, which includes nights, weekends and holidays. S/he must have the proven ability to manage a team, identify which trending stories are worth pursuing, give productive guidance and skillfully navigate problem solving situations on the fly.

The duties of the Senior Manager, Social Media will include, but will not be limited to:
  • Identify and assign trending stories of value to social producers
  • Identify which stories will work as social video, which as articles and which as both
  • Edit social videos, headlines and share language submitted by producers on the team
  • Give guidance on best practices and strategy for the numerous social platforms
  • Write trending news stories for
  • Produce and edit shareable videos and quote graphics
  • Manage schedules, pitches and personnel issues as they arise
  • Participate in interdepartmental brainstorms, offering feedback from a social perspective
What you bring to the team:
You have –

  • 5+ years of newsroom experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Strong writing skills
  • Portfolio of articles and video pieces that you have either produced or edited
  • Knowledge of best practices for all social platforms
  • Eye for what stories work on social
  • Proven ability to multitask
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback
  • Hunger for growth

You might also have –
  • Video editing experience
  • Photoshop fluency
  • Experience with analytics
