CBS Sports Digital is launching a new Sports Marketing sales organization (Maximum Sports Marketing) designed to more fully leverage its portfolio of assets, particularly 247Sports and MaxPreps assets.  These properties are leaders in their respective spaces. 247Sports serves college sports fans with a portfolio of team sites and recruiting news. MaxPreps is America’s largest sports media company devoted exclusively to the coverage of high school sports.  Collectively, 247Sports and MaxPreps reach 40-million average monthly unique users. 

Role Details: 
CBS Sports Digital is seeking a Director of Sports Marketing Partnerships. This role is designed for a high achiever who is professionally persistent, strategic, and creative.  This role is a high-level sales role designed to work directly with America’s largest brands. The Director of Sports Marketing Partnerships will be responsible for account investigation, relationship development, partnership program development, closing new business, and maintaining executive-level relationships with our clients.  The objective is to create multi-year, multi-million-dollar partnerships with America’s leading consumer brands interested in “owning” investable sports marketing assets in the collegiate and high school sports space. The Director of Sports Marketing Partnerships must be outstanding at networking and relationship building, both inside brands, and throughout the target brand set.

Your Day-to-Day:
  • Professionally manage the sales cycle from introduction through close and execution
  • Secure multi-million dollar, multi-year, or annually renewable business partnerships
  • Build personal relationships with key brand decision makers 
  • Research brand motivations and leadership thinking i.e. Analyze what makes the brand tick? Where do they want to go and how do they plan to get there? What is the leadership obsessed with? Who have they hired to fix their problems?
  • Determine how CBS Sports Digital can profitably provide an appropriate solution that excites the brand’s decision makers
  • Develop an understanding of target “budget buckets” and approval processes.  Multiple decision-makers are likely to be involved in approving the partnership we seek to develop.
  • Convey to potential clients the benefits of working with CBS Sports Digital; have strong presentation skills, with the ability to “read the room.”
  • Maintain executive-level relationships and account oversight post-close
  • Communicate regularly to ensure client satisfaction, and prepare for program enhancements and renewal
  • This person must possess high energy and passion for our solutions, consumers and clients
  • Develop a strong conversational understanding of CBS Sports Digital’s capabilities, including:
    • Experiential events and on-site activations
    • Lead generation
    • Custom content development, production and distribution
    • Social media extensions
    • Sponsorship creative
    • Entitlement programs

Key Projects: 
  • Marketplace research: Who should we target
  • Develop close business relationships with influencers and decision makers.
  • Get to know CBS and build internal relationships and trust with key people who can provide you with advice, and industry connections.  
  • Attend and actively participate at industry conferences, and business gatherings to network and build rapport 

What you bring to the team: 
You have – 
  • 3+ years proven success in a sales or business development role with major accounts
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on business, marketing, or sports administration or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated history of pursuing and attaining stretch revenue goals while creating and maintaining “C-suite” business relationships
  • Strong investigative skills and the proven ability to translate client needs into solutions
  • Experience closing complex and large deals with major consumer brands 
  • The ability to effectively communicate rationale behind brand partnerships
  • Ensure Sports Digital brand objectives are aligned with voice, reach and results
